regrets.
that 4pm skinny caramel latte was the worst idea ever.
no caffeine after lunch. drink water, fool.
multitasking
i needed to do two things. run and get laundry quarters.
so, i ran to get quarters!
brilliant.
but i am still slow. and i was going to go to the far away grocery for quarters, but it got rather cold. so i ended up going only two miles. better than nothing.
plus i already got in a 20 minute walk when my bus driver was a jerk and missed my connection. no problem. i can walk 13...

today was the worst food day of my life.
actually breakfast was. don’t get gas station breakfast. you’re better off starving.
the rest of the day would have been fine…i was just over my calories from the start….and didn’t gym it up because of a night meeting.
and now it’s blizzarding. i can feel the wind blowing in my freaking bedroom.
i hate north dakota...
hurry up, little foam roller
i ordered a foam roller on amazon earlier tonight because my back has been so tight lately, despite daily stretching. i’m hoping that nightly roller-massages will help things.
i would really like to sleep through the night again, instead of waking up full of knots at 2:30 in the morning.
successful WiW!!
thank you baby jesus.
down 1.4 from last week. and the week before. and the week before.
eat my dust, plateau.
the elderly of my building were really interested...
grandma 1: how far did you go?
me: a little better than two miles.
grandma 2: well, did you run or just walk really fast?
me: i ran.
old guy: i bet you sleep really well.
me: ...
grandma 1: aren't you afraid to be out at night alone?
me: we live in north dakota. i'm more likely to get eaten by a wolf, than anything else.
grandma 2 (to grandma 1): she's probably right.
purchased my tickets for washington dc in march.
i’ve never been.
definitely giving me something to look forward to!

so, i broke up with my boyfriend monday night. that sucks.
yesterday was an emotional snow day…my boss told me i could go home, and after an hour of crying in my office, i took her up on it. i cried, watched tv, let me friends tell me i’m awesome, and slept.
i’m actually exhausted today. and a…
breaking up is hard to do.
it’s going to be a rough couple of days.
i’m just sad and disappointed. i’ll be fine. i hope he is too.

hurts so good
last night i was going to go for a run, but the ups man didn’t drop off my new [to-die-for] running shoes until 6pm, and then i was off to supper with 2 of my brothers and my mom.
because my mom rocks, she agreed to do a livingroom workout with me, so i pulled up one of sarahfit’s ab workouts. based on my ab soreness today, i would hire her if i didn’t live half a country away.

blue sparkle
i actually did my laundry yesterday.
and got groceries…which lead to the laundry doing. i got a roll of quarters and some dryer sheets, so i could take on the project.
i just noticed that my jeans smell excellent. (i thought it was me…nope. it’s my jeans.)
blue sparkle scented snuggle…
making monday a little more tolerable.
dear mfp
give a girl a break.
i went to enter my exercise tonight and you won’t call what i did jogging. you call it walking at a very, very brisk pace. three adjectives warrants a new word. just so you know.
love,
muriel
new (actual) 5k time: 41:28.
way less impressive than 35 minutes, but hey. it was 20% farther as well.
new and realistic goal for saturday’s 5k: 40 minutes.
WiW
down three more pounds.
that’s six in two weeks.
i’ve been busting my ass.
i deserve it.

I’m freshly home from the gym…still a sweaty mess, but I am so happy with tonight’s workout that I have to blog it before I shower and enjoy my well deserved supper/snack.
Elliptical trainer: 60 freaking minutes.
Myfitnesspal.com tells me that’s worth over 900 calories. I don’t know if that’s…
today, i will be great.
i’m eating well.
i’m drinking my water.
i’m being a good little worker.
tonight i’m going to rock that elliptical.
and then i’m going to bed, so i can do it all over again tomorrow.
best snack ever.
chocolate rice cake + all natural peanut butter
DELISH.
I was supposed to do my long run today (and every saturday.)
6 miles.
Here are the reasons it didn’t happen:
Today’s high was like -3F and windy.
I had an MLK event to put on.
Shopping trip with my little bro for running shoes, groceries, etc.
Reasons it will occur tomorrow instead:
Guess who got a gym pass?!
Because I said so.
Let the games begin...

My bestie and I are training for a half marathon.
Funny thing though, we’ve never run a race before.
Meh.
We’re going to give it hell.

Hey Y'all
If you’re interested in following a couple of crazy girls on the road to a half-marathon, check out the blog my bestie and I started to chronicle our training adventures.
Two Girls With Something To Prove
I should also plug my other bestie’s blog, because she’s awesome too.
And it’s not even Tuesday!

overachiever day
training plan says: 1 mile run
muriel decides: 5k run
set a new pr: 36:42
tomorrow is a rest day.
training day 2
last night was my “crosstraining” workout. since i’m currently poor and unwilling to cough up the money for a gym pass and i live on the tundra, i’ve determined my crosstraining will be walking…at least for a few weeks.
so, i walked for 45 minutes. and i walked to a store and bought a neck gaiter (photos to come) so that i can better survive my climate. i feel like a...
after reading several people’s recommendations for myfitnesspal.com, i signed up. i’m horrible at tracking what i eat—i’d way rather just exercise and eat what i want, but obvi, that’s not really working for me.
i’m running a half marathon in april. dead serious.
i know that serious training is going to make a big difference, but i might as well pay attention...
it's 4 below. farenheit.
do i get any extra bonus points for doing my first day of half-marathon training outside when it’s effing freezing? are there extra calories or something?
Day 1: Walk 2 miles, run 1 mile, walk 2 miles
5 miles. done.
took forever.
today is my 27th birthday. while i’d anticipated having some sort of meltdown, it was actually no biggie. it was just a reasonably normal sunday with the bf.
it was almost solely because it is my birthday, though, that i convinced him to participate in making cauliflower crust pizza. i did some begging, and promised him nasty mushrooms on his half. and, he actually made the whole thing for...

the blizzard warning is official.
good thing i ran last night. maybe i’ll get one in between storms?
welcome to north dakota. this storm should leave in the morning, but fear not…another one is scheduled to move in over the afternoon.
i think that should just count as one long storm…
longest. day. ever.
thought i’d take some time to pretty up the old blog template.
time to take on the world, i guess.
i’m not waiting for the new year to start my resolution.
and running in the wintery darkness is not that scary.
2.5 miles after dark. 32 minutes.
not fast, but not a bad clip. i’m surprised how easily that pace comes back to me.
christmas haul
2 pairs of cold weather running pants
underarmor cold gear turtleneck
marmot softshell jacket
i got other stuff, like 2 giant boxes of yarn from my brother, but the others are less important to this end. running starts today.
i’m making V run a half-marathon with me in april.
naturally, it’s going to blizzard the next two days. i’ll run before it starts and as soon as the...
i need a treadmill or something...
it’s currently -14F on the blustery tundra. but there’s wind, so it feels like -29F.
no running for me today.
i’ll just work on my handmade christmas gifts…and maybe some cookies and stuff. :)
back on the wagon.
i’m back.
for real this time.
two months after mono ruined my 8k race, i laced up my shoes and went for a run across the frozen tundra of north dakota. managed 2 miles in 26 minutes. nothing impressive, but i was prepared for the 15-16 minute miles from when i first started running, so 13 minute miles with walking breaks is a fine re-starting point.
i had no idea how to dress myself for...

i made myself a pot of sleepy time tea at 9pm. i used to be a ton of fun…then i moved to the sticks. now at the end of a stressful work week, i drink tea in my dark livingroom and create weekend cleaning strategies.

tragedy struck
part of the reason i didn’t make tonight a 5k:
left earbud died.
RIP little buddy…too bad for your twin. he’s getting sacrificed.
back in the game
i conquered mono.
and survived a sliced open baby toe. (i know better than to wear flops while biking, but do it all the time. not my first flop-related injury.)
so today i started my fastest 10k training….which suggests that i’ve run a 10k before. i haven’t. i’ve run 8k. and by the end of the week, i plan to be capable of running a 10k, but i’m going to have to...
